Liked it, remote, quiet, very few misquitoes. Great Ranger guided talks. Two boat tours, one thru a canal in the Glades was very interesting. The other was a ripoff and a joke, a boat ride out 10 miles and back on Florida Bay. Hiking in the campgrounds was great, especially the Anahinga Trail, crocks galore.
Very large and limited privacy. I went there in October (which I know is still off-season) and the mosquitoes were crazy!!! They surrounded me like a cloud of gnats even with lots of DEET bugspray. I had to eat in my tent. Quite a miserable experience.
Unless you are A) staying in an RV and B) interested in fishing, this is not the campground for you. The campground is HUGE but only 1 loop appears to be maintained. As soon as we stepped out of our car we could see why; the mosquitoes were HORRIBLE. We hurriedly set up our tent and promptly got back in the car. Unfortunately, there isn't much to see around Flamingo so we ended up spending the night in the visitor center lobby playing cards. This is definitely on my list of will-not-recommend places. Camp at Long-Pine-Key or don't stay in the Everglades at all...
Out there camping with trails like no others
Loved the camping here, nice grass and the spots are spaced out. Very windy!
